The AFL and the AFLPA are set to announce the new round on Monday.
The new fixture will be a round-robin format, with the finals series at the MCG and the semi-finals at the Adelaide Oval.
The AFL said it was looking at the match-day schedule for 2018-19 and the finals in a bid to increase the quality of the competition.
“The AFLPA is committed to maintaining the best standard of competition and the game of football and the new fixture is an example of this,” AFL president Chris Fagan said.
“We’re pleased to have agreed a series of matches that will enhance the AFL’s game-day experience.”
The new fixtures include a round of nine games and six of 12 matches in the pre-season.
It’s been a busy year for the AFL, with all-star games in 2017 and the premiership season.
There’s also a round four of the season scheduled for the Gold Coast and the final of the Western Bulldogs’ premiership against Geelong.
The league will also have two more premierships in 2020 and 2021, with finals in the Melbourne and Gold Coast.
